The opposite problem of having people throw their degree at you as a way of sounding like they KNOW, is people throwing your degree at you and EXPECTING you to know everything related vaguely to what you studied. Having a PhD in Biology apparently qualifies me to know EVERYTHING about all living things, disease...and actually I should also know quite a lot about medicine!? People actually want medical tips for their afflictions from me...and i just feel like....what the heck is that all about? Plus, most people who have PhDs are specialists in a very specific part of their field, so what is up with expecting us to know everything about everything??

More compelling content from our Zürich bureau. I hadn't thought of it going that direction!
I guess it's a little like someone thinking that since I have passed my driver's test, I should know how to rebuild an engine.
